I currently have $2. I spent $1 yesterday and earned $2 yesterday. How many dollars do I have now?
Gemini Advanced:
You have $3 now. Here's how we figure that out:

You started with $2.
You spent $1, so you had $1 left ($2 - $1 = $1).
Then you earned $2, bringing your total to $3 ($1 + $2 = $3)

Mistral Tiny:
Based on the information provided, you currently have $2.
The fact that you spent $1 and earned $2 on the same day doesn't change your current balance, as the $2 you earned replaces the $1 you spent.

Good at horse racing. Too verbose in its output and disclaimers. Assumes too much. Looking forward to getting actual API access because I think it will be good.

When you can actually get it to do something- like read files in your google drive- it can be amazing. Sadly it's very inconsistent, refusing tasks that it happily nailed moments earlier. Not only is it not worth paying for right now, I don't even want to use it for free with the two-month trial offer.

Case in point: it happily read through an old Biotech text book that I have stored in my Google Drive. It answered a decent question about "GFP" and how it's used and accurately showed the page numbers that referenced my query. That was very cool! An hour or so later and it refused the same request for a different search term, in this case "CRISPR".

It would also "forget" that it had drive access via it's extension and failed to find a different text even though it succeeded so amazingly well earlier. Repeat the prompt in a different chat and you might get lucky and have a good experience again.

Couple all that inconsistency with the long condescending refusals and disclaimers and I've gone back to GPT4, SimTheory hosted agents and local models. They might be less capable in some areas -like using your entire google Drive as a RAG- but they're substantially more reliable at performing the tasks that they are capable of.

Maybe Google will fix up some of this between now and when they start charging for this in two months time. With their inconsistent track record I'm not holding my breath.

Really good at creative writing! Shocking, actually. Particularly good at writing children's stories and might be better than Claude 2.0.

Mike, have you given it a run with a nighttime batman story yet? Curious what your son thinks! :)

I still use Claude 2 just because we have it on SimTheory. I’ve expanded my collections into Batman, ninja turtles and spiderman. It does become repetitive though (Claude) I will switch to ultra when they have an api because it is really mind blowing at writing. I think it poses a big threat to Claude because it was their one strength.

Hey, sorry for being off topic, but about the coming interviews: talk to Swedish entrepreneur @nylanderjens who is in the process of scanning and analyzing ALL invoices paid by Swedish local governments, universities and government owned companies to detect irregularities. Old school ML, but making a huge impact. Has already uncovered millions and millions in corruption, scams, frauds, etc. An AI hero! Thanks for a great show!

Glad you think so! Here’s an op-ed about his work from one of Sweden's biggest newspapers:

After subscribing to Gemini advanced, i asked “Is the Google Gemini Advanced available in UK”. It replied “Unfortunately, google gemini advanced is not yet available in the uk”…..which if true, would be pretty frustrating as i just subscribed to it from my home in the UK.

I cannot find it anymore but after Google introduced the Gemini "Advanced" chatbot plan, someone from Google said that for some operations like image analysis, the chatbot still uses the Gemini Pro model. (And then I think it may switch to Ultra for some followup, but at that moment it loses access to the embedded image context).

I'm very impressed with the Gemini Ultra reasoning, from my initial tests. The deployment in the paid tier as a free trial is understandable as a first test. I'm sure API will follow, and so will more connected modality.

At the very least, it looks to me that Google "is delivering", finally. Gemini Ultra is not yet fully mature, but neither was GPT-4 when it debuted. I think we need at least a few weeks or months to be able to judge Gemini Ultra fairly.

Also off topic... re coming interview, consider chatting with Danny Liu from Sydney University. Making great advances in AI in Higher Education.
